Student Stories: Meet Thomas, Age 8
What’s your favorite thing to do at Launch?
Needle in the Haystack! There’s a pile of hay and we have to try to find a needle. It’s a plastic needle so no one gets hurt. I won 2 years in a row!
What’s your favorite field trip you’ve taken this summer?
We went bowling and it was pretty fun. I got to go to the arcade and I won a lot of prizes like slime and an airplane you can build. We also went to MoPOP and there was a bunch of props and stuff from movies. We got to play at the big playground at the Seattle Center. It was like 5 times bigger than the one at Launch. It’s kinda scary at the top because you’re so high up, but because I’ve been on field trips there before I’m used to it.
What’s a fun project you did at Launch this summer?
We made slime and we made ice cream with liquid nitrogen.
Why do you like going to Launch?
It’s fun to do something at school that isn’t homework, and do a bunch of fun stuff with my friends.
What do you do for fun?
I go outside and play and watch funny YouTube videos. My favorite is called Globgogabgalab. It’s super weird and funny. I laughed so hard I couldn’t breathe!
What’s your favorite food?
One of them is sushi. Another is pizza. Does candy count? (Editor: Sure!) Then candy.
If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
I was going to say New York but I just realized it’s really busy, so no. I would go somewhere in the United States.
What’s one thing you want to learn how to do?
I wish I could learn the Force.
What’s your favorite book?
I like A Wrinkle in Time. I’m reading A Wind in the Door now.
What’s your favorite movie?
The Narnia movies. And the books are good too!
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Maybe a scientist and do stuff.
If you were the boss at Launch, what would you do?
I would make more field trips like to the Family Fun Center.
What’s one thing you’re really good at?
Acting. I went to drama school for 5 days and my mom and dad said I was good at acting. I’m pretty good at art too, but I haven’t done it in a long time.
What makes you happy?
Doing fun stuff like laser tag and putting two tokens in the candy machine at Family Fun Center. But that’s only 2 out of 1,000 things that make me happy and excited. Swimming in the pool makes me happy. Eating goodly food.
